My forte. Impractical DIY. Take lots of mag pics and cover the non-existent splash back (aka builders blue board). Use mag covers on the bottom row so you can wipe of cooking splatters, open the window and wait til you know what to do with the kitchen and which range hood to buy. If we can't make it done, we'll just have to make do!

How I love stylish bathrooms. Timber, concrete, pedestal vanity, I don't mind. I know I want Venetian mirrors. A rectangular one or 2 tall ones above Mr and I's basins. I just have to convince Mr to knock through the wall into our beloved walk in pantry because I want it to be spacious. We were gifted an old cast iron bath with bronze feet, which is waiting patiently and waterless in storage. Eventually I will have it resprayed in whitest white (feet and all?!) and have it perched centre stage like the one we bathed in at the White House in Daylesford. That bathroom looks bare and basic but it was a delight to be in and bathe in.

My pink tub is full of dust and critters and the whale spout isn't quite cutting it. A mix of designer bathroom furniture and a vintage French armoire for towels and beautiful bathroom products and such would do nicely I'd think. But I have a wedding to plan (I'm trying to keep that very simple and - fingers crossed - easy too) so back on the back burner this goes.

Many decorators/designers are firm believers that just because you have to store something away, or keep it organized and out of the way, doesn't mean that it can't be visually appealing. Many even incorporate the storage of their stuff into their home décor, which is a great idea if you live in a studio or a small home.For instance, store your knick-knacks on an antique shelf as a curio case and display them with under-cabinet light fixtures. Or organize your books (or shoes or craft supplies, etc.) according to color for a pretty rainbow effect. You'll find these and many more ideas in this round-up of beautiful storage ideas. Enjoy!

For those women with bountiful shoes in loads of different colors, this is a great storage idea to borrow, c/o J. Crew's creative director, Jenna Lyons. It's a simple idea, really, just store your shoes according to color on open-shelving in your closet or bedroom.

Arrange your jewelry –earrings, necklaces and rings – in teacups, teacup saucers or bento boxes, either in a lined-drawer or on your vanity. It's a great way to keep smaller jewels in place and of course it looks pretty.

This idea is great if you don't have any closet space or if you live in a studio. This really feminine bedroom is accented with a colorful palette of clothes (which also act as a headboard). In keeping with the white palette, use white boxes to store your scarves, lingerie, etc. and use a couple of pretty white table lamps for a little extra light.

In a similar vein, you can also create a curtained closet in your bedroom. This is a great idea if you have a larger bedroom, but no closet. If you're blessed with such a well-lit space, light your curtained closet with track lighting or wall sconces.

In the kitchen, display your herbs, spices, rices and other dry goods in a collection of collectible mason jars. The result is effortless and pretty and would lovely in a country cottage.

You could also use shelving like this to store additional toiletries for guests.As you can see from this collection, keeping your things stored or organized can be beautiful and visually appealing. Goodness me, I downloaded Google Chrome and the updated Blogger and have confused myself silly! Anywho, here are more pics of Xmas Eve, who knew mauve carnations could be so sweet?A large outdoor garland was hung and a menu taped to the wall. We dined on olives, wine and bread / then a butterflied leg of lamb with salsa verde / zucchini, feta and avocado salad / fresh tomatoes with olive oil and thyme / roasted pumpkin with sage. Then for dessert some Christmas pudding ice cream with poached summer cherries. Tea, Brie's white Xmas and our home made trio of cookies to finish.

When Day Becomes Eve

On Christmas Eve, Mr and I made the house spic and span and our new neighbour kindly dropped in some Christmas Bush clipped from her backyard tree. We made 3 batches of cookies for people we knew not what else to get them - in the new 90cm Smeg oven Mr had to to pull down a little wall to allow for.
These are lemon almond, brown sugar spice and ginger snap cookies.

I then settled down to a Moscow Mule thanks to the bottle of vodka we found under the house in one of Mr's moving boxes. What a find!

The Night Before Christmas

On Christmas Eve, we had a little dinner party, our first in the new house so I guess it was a bit of a house warming too, with a few early Christmas presents given and opened. I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and is ready to ring in the New Year. What a busy year it's been, I hope the next is a little less hectic but I don't know how that could be so.

I mentioned a few posts ago that Mr & I bought a 50's house and are busy making it a home. For Christmas, Mr bought me a Kitchen Aid mix master and yesterday while he was mowing the lawns (yes we have lawn - mostly weeds & dirt), I was baking a cake and we met on the couch for tea (creme brulee tea from T2, you HAVE to try it) and citrus butter cake I said to him "now that I have Stitchy and a Kitchen Aid and you have your garage/workshop, all I need now is to start sewing myself some 50's house dresses and I'm a regular Betty Crocker". So now of course, I am on the hunt for some 50's dress patterns.

I look forward to taking you on a photographic tour of our house very soon.

Well these are my dots, after much bad maths, I finally got the spacing right. These are bright & happy and probably and would look amazing in a lounge room, dining room or kids room - at the moment I have them in my study. The other colours I did were 'army' greens, greys & metallics and a bit more 'grown up', almost masculine (except I snuck in some pale pink).

To this. Our view has gone from a watery one to a wooden one. They are demolishing the balconies so we are trapped in here for the summer.

At least we are lucky enough to have the beach out there, just seems cruel that we can no longer see it and breathe it. If it becomes too suffocating, we'll pack up and go...in the mean time I have quite enjoyed the reconfiguring our little place to accommodate the changes. That is, well after we got home to our reduced space and felt like crying.

Saturday was such a busy day - I usually like Saturdays to myself...to read, to faff, to sew. Not so this weekend. It went a little bit like this: A walk and a coffee, a carpenter in our house, an auction, Mr bought me flowers at the amazing fjura (pic 2 is a bridal bouquet I'd be overjoyed with), exchanged some trousers in Witchery, 3 house inspections, 2 family visits, a snuggle of a baby, lunch with dad, framing pick up - I had my dots framed, I'll show you soon - drop off Mr for a hair cut, drop myself to a facial, pick up Mr, rearrage the house because the carpenter built a wall to block off our balcony, view & lounge room (long story) - tried to rearrange to create space that isn't there. The peonies made everything bearable, so did dinner with friends and lots of lovely wine, only to wake up with a stinger of a headache and do it all again. A walk, a coffee, finish rearranging the house. A beautiful summery day, a picnic with stunning views, the making of some beautiful new cloud garlands. What did you get up to?

In Hobart (or just outside actually) we stayed at the architecturally stunning Moorilla Estate which neighbours the new world class MONA - Museum of Old & New Art which is just mind blowing. That river view is what we had from the sunken spa bath in our pavilion. So relaxing.

Please excuse the graininess of the photos - they were taken with Mr's (flashless) iPhone at night. Through beautiful gates, past a wooden wheelbarrow herb garden and through a beautifully lit raw brick corridor you arrive in the courtyard of Ethos. The food is served on handmade glazed pottery (as was a lot of the food from Agrarian Kitchen to Ethos and Gargistes in Hobart).

That's a duck egg boiled over a few few hours which we cracked into the the little mound of spinach and parmesan - amazing. The tea was served on a board with silk bags stitched closed with wood and stamped tags and chai and milk and hot water all served in amber medicine type bottles which also housed the little bunch of native flowers on our table. It really was beautifully and thoughtfully done. Low-emissions tapas they call it. The menu was pinned into the cover of old books lined with maps - ours was 'The Family Crotchet book'. The bill was delivered in another. Inspirational.

Wandering in Launceston

In Launceston we came were thrilled to have visited the Tasmanian Design Centre which was just beautiful and there was a stunning park right next door with a gorgeous conservatory in it filled with orchids and plants and quite randomly a Macaque enclosure in another corner of the park. We foiund some really beautiful shops too - Vintage Rose, Homebody, Cocoon.

Agrarian Kitchen

After brownies and lattes we had a wander around the Agrarian Kitchen's farm in our gumboots with our French market baskets and a pair of secateurs. After patting the pig and collecting eggs, we cut ourselves some mint, silverbeet and English spinach from the garden beds and dug down into the little mounds to find white asparagus before forking out bunches of fragrant parsnips.

We split into pairs and cooked away and sat down to our meal of melt-in-your-mouth gnocchi with spinach, white asparagus & mint (topped with crunchy breadcrumbs and lashings of parmesan), followed by braised wagyu agrodolce (made by Mr & I) which fell apart with the touch of the fork served (phew!) with lard roast potatoes, parsnips and artichokes and a silverbeet gratin - all with matching Tasmanian wines. Only to finish with honey poached apple and wild damson jam steamed puddings with cinnamon custard. Ah very full we were.

Thank goodness today was a little less stressful than the last few weeks - I even managed a gym class. How was your weekend? I made a 6m jumbo version of this "Luxe" garland for my sis. It's made with Chrisina Re beautiful metallic papers. I'm not putting her in my shop beacuse I want to keep her but you can email me for a custom one and I would delighted to make another one for you. A Little Place Called Melbourne

Wow - this week flew...last weekend we went to Melbourne and I didn't even have time to tell you. I forgot my camera so these are my poor iphone efforts. We went to The Heide to lunch at Cafe Vue (loved the plates and the pear tart), bought a divine pear & chocolate mound from B&P and ate it in the bath, dined at St Jude's Cellar, slept at The Hatton. Woke, coffee drank at Bada Brother Budan, shopped along Little Collins and had a long menu-less lunch and a sneaky G&T and glass of sauv blanc at the incredible Press Club (the got back to the car and collected a parking ticket). Yum!

My latest cooking obsession is Jamie's 30 minute meals. They take (me) more than 30 minutes but the flavours are amazing. Mr gave this salmon tray bake with salsa verde 10 out of 10. The '0' was a gift for baby Sage for when she got back home to mama BB's house. Speaking of which, I will soon be able to share pics of her soon to be installed new kitchen.

My sis had a new baby girl and I baked 'cute as a button' cupcakes and a lemon and orange olive oil cake to have for tea when she arrived home her '0' birthday and gave her one of my Pixie garlands.

Pic 2 is the sample sheets for the orange garland range which will soon be added to my etsy shop and the Pic 4 is the (Mr named) lovely Summer.

The Home Front

I'm excited about our little getaway to Melbourne this weekend. I'm most looking forwardto a nice hot bath in our lovely hotel room. It will be chilly but lots of good food and a change of scenery will be lovely.

Pic 1 - Although the scenery from our house is pretty, well serene. Check out our beach. All ours. It will be a different story in summer no doubt.

Pic 2 - This is our new Persian rug we randomly bought when driving through Rozelle to pick up some recycled timber Mr has been working with to fashion into a bench seat for our dining table. Quite a commitment was buying that together. We tried to justify the expense all the way home.

Pic 3 - Mr named this photo 'reflections,' which I took a Sunday afternoon walk, bless his little heart, he has been naming my garlands when I dance around the house to show him the most recetly completed one.

Pic 4 - Another little project - glitter covered letters. Very messy indeed.
