Street Gardens

What I loved about Mitte in Berlin were all the artisans. The newly formed-concrete stores were filled with kooky designer goods with ateliers or courtyards out the back. The designers were only too happy to emerge from their studios and away from their stitching or jewellery crafting to chat about their beautiful handmade goods and the inspirations behind them. My fave artisan of all was the oh so sweet (and amazingly talented) Esther Perbandt - I wish I bought one of her gold tooth necklaces.
Vintage furniture shops had little vignettes set up on the streets and cafes spilled onto the side walk with vintage furniture. And yes, I hugged an ice cream.

Blue & Orange & Bye Bye!

I am heading to Kenya and South Africa for a week! I'll miss you guys - but have scheduled some amazing posts and I look forward to reading every comment when I return. xFrom top: Berlin cafe Oliv/constructing Berlin; Qantas sign taken from my car when driving past Sydney airport; dinner at Monsieur Vuong in Mitte, Berlin; flowers on the table at a little Italian place in Mitte

It's German for ice cream. We first thought every cafe was called 'Eis' until we figured out the little flag hanging out the front of cafes meant there was ice cream to be found inside. So this cafe is Napoljonska Bakery in Berlin, and yes, its sells eis. So pretty and pastel, inside and out.
