The Home Front

I'm excited about our little getaway to Melbourne this weekend. I'm most looking forwardto a nice hot bath in our lovely hotel room. It will be chilly but lots of good food and a change of scenery will be lovely.

Pic 1 - Although the scenery from our house is pretty, well serene. Check out our beach. All ours. It will be a different story in summer no doubt.

Pic 2 - This is our new Persian rug we randomly bought when driving through Rozelle to pick up some recycled timber Mr has been working with to fashion into a bench seat for our dining table. Quite a commitment was buying that together. We tried to justify the expense all the way home.

Pic 3 - Mr named this photo 'reflections,' which I took a Sunday afternoon walk, bless his little heart, he has been naming my garlands when I dance around the house to show him the most recetly completed one.

Pic 4 - Another little project - glitter covered letters. Very messy indeed.

Super Size It

I took these pics back in August 2009. The window of The Corner Shop in Paddington featuring a huge flower photo by George Seper (if memory serves) hung with bulldog clips. I'd love to see one of my flower pics blown up to this size! and I'd love an entry to my house like this one in home town Surry Hills.

The Impermanence of Love

I was going to post these pics last year for Valentines Day but with the blogosphere being the joyous, positive place it is, I thought it was just too cynical.
Maybe I was paranoid because I was single and well...this year I wasn't, I'm not, so here it is...skeletal love.
This stencil has since been removed. Their love was short-lived. I hope mine isn't.

2010

A year in. This special K ad was up last year around new years eve. For some reason I really liked it. The kissing skeletons have been removed too.

Twenty Ten

I love where I live. I love the cafes, the people, the anything goes, the trendiness, the grunge, the city grime, the good food and especially the street art. The space dude above has since been painted over - I love the impermanence.

Full Spectrum

My favourite segments on Saturday consist of a sitting cafe in a courtyard in the sun. Good coffee is a given and the Spectrum lift-out from the paper is essential. Hours of coffee drinking and toast dipping follow. The afternoon is devoted to snuggling my baby nephews and niece.

Warm. Inspiring. Delicious.

Sunshine in the city. Frida in the window. A bookshop. Buckets of flowers.

Home

I spent all weekend (as I do most) out of the inner city where I live. It's not that I don't love living in the centre of the action, it's more that by the weekend I'm ready to get away...this is the area my parents and sisters live. It's where I walk on a weekend morning before grabbing an awesome latte. This pocket of the world is my 'secret spot' where the water is perfectly clear and there is never anyone around. It was this that I was homesick for when I lived in London. Blue-blue skies, bright-bright sunshine and water water everywhere. I can't breathe without knowing it's near. Saturday was a magic, magic day. So with soul restored, I'm ready to face the week - starting with a 7am visit from the dishwasher repair man - I just can't contain my excitement.

Concrete Honey on Toast

Where else but Paris? I googled concrete honey and there is such a thing - Miel Beton. An artist installed a dozen hives on the roof of Saint Denis' town hall and the little bees found nectar in places like rooftop terraces, parks, balconies and tree-lined streets. Locals are literally "eating their neighbourhood" from little jars.
We, the artistic inhabitants living in this buzzing inner city hive, gorge ourselves on the urban nectar of our wine bars and cafes, art galleries, rooftop terraces and food and friend-filled homes. This is how we pollinate our city and the honey it produces is sweet inspiration. Our concrete honey tastes like Surry Hills.
