Sitting in the sun with latte, mandarin cake & my preggers sister at De Clieu in Melbourne...I tried to find the French translation for De Clieu but alas, it's the name of a dashing young captain from the French navy. Gabriel Mathieu de Clieu is credited with being the man to introduce coffee to the New World. While on leave in Paris, he randomly decided to take a coffee plant back to his station in Martinique and so stole seedlings from the Royal Jardin de Plantes and smuggled them aboard his ship.
