When Pamela Makin renovated the family weatherboard bungalow in Newport Beach knocking three bedrooms into one open living space spilling into the Pacific Ocean, she had no idea the $200,000 face lift would become a global sensation, especially after the builders said it couldn't and shouldn’t be done.
