Not A Recipe

I was itching to make these apricot & orange bran muffins, but they were just too 'healthy' tasting (and that's coming from someone that likes dense, wholesome, uncake-like cardboardy muffins). They were great straight out of the oven, but the texture changed when they cooled, so even though the recipe didn't make the Urban Nectar cut, I thought I'd share the pics here. p.s. this little critter didn't seem to mind them.

Ribbons of Lemon

Why do we call pale yellow 'lemon' and pale green 'mint' when a lemon is bright yellow and mint is dark green?

Confessions of a Gelatissimo Addict

OK - so I took these photos in the morning because, well, who can eat gelato for breakfast? Uh, me! "Gelatissimo gelato is smooth, rich and simply irresistible" is no lie. Here are the 6 taste sensations: Nutty Nougat Crunch, Nutella Chocolate Swirl, Choc Chunk Macadamia, Chocolate and Almond Praline, Choc Rocky Road and Chocolate Caramel Fudge with Peanut Butter. A takeaway pack is a great dinner party dessert shortcut.

Nuts About Chocolate

MasterChef starts tomorrow night. I am SO excited - I absolutely love cooking shows. I spend much of my weekend reading food magazines and planning what to cook while sitting in front of a cooking show eating. So...when I found out that as of 13 April Gelatissimo had introduced a new nutty chocolate range I just HAD to try them all. With the six flavours before me, I thought I'd test the taste buds and look up the flavours later, just like on MasterChef when they ask the contestants to guess the 17 ingredients in a bolognaise sauce - can you get close? The gelato verdict? The bottom pic were my picks (and no, not because they were white, because they were AMAZING - one was definitely peanut buttery and the other creamy hazelnut with specks of chocolate).

Buds & Bowers

An enchanted chat to the guy at Buds & Bowers ended in my buying these amazing branches (related to the eucalyptus tree). Their leaves are powdery grey and their little gumnuts and branches look as though they have been dipped in white paint. I didn't have a tall enough vase for them so they eneded up in a silver topped wine decanter. I loved that they were wrapped in grey paper to match their chalky grey leaves. This is not your average florist...other unique 'flowers' on display were cows udders, pink peppercorns, okra branches and echinacea.

Delicates

After dropping my 'indelicates' to the laundromat last weekend, I hand washed my delicates and left them to dry in the beautiful Saturday sun. This Saturday I will finally have time to pick up my load, do a spot of cooking and shopping at Donna Hay's new store, buy a bunch of flowers and look forward to my afternoon facial.

Bringing Back Colour

Images from Sass & Bide's 'The New Grace' Spring/Fall 09 collection.

Exquisite Collisions

Japanese artist Shinich Maruyama captures the exquisite airborne collisions of black Indian ink and water photographed moments before they inevitably flood his studio with the resultant murk of grey water. How does he do it? With strobe light technology with speeds up to one 7500th of a second. Amazing.

Water Bottles & Ink

Gülnur özdağlar is an architect in Ankara, Turkey who somehow magically takes something as ordinarily uninspiring as a discarded recyclable water bottle, and using an open flame, scissors, a knife and a soldering iron, she creates create these ethereal jellyfish-like sculptures. She hand pierces every single tiny hole individually. Her Etsy shop Tertium Non Data displays her fascinating range of products, from wearable art: brooches and necklaces to sculpture like useable art: bowls, vases and plastic petal chandeliers. What a beautiful way to make a statement about an adversity to waste.

I've been following Natsumi's blog for as long as I've been blogging. I don't remember how I came across her work but the tiny delicate art works she creates just struck a chord with me. I still can not get this one out of my head.

Feathered Lashes & Frilled Collars

When I see a picture of Claudia I have to catch it as there are only glimpses of her remaining. Cindy and Claudia were a huge part of my teenage years during the original supermodel era. Along with Christie & Linda, Naomi & Helena, they were plastered on my walls and my oldest and dearest friend Anna and I have since been living in the hope that one day we'd bloom into women resembling Claudia (her) and Cindy (Me)...hmm, we're still waiting.

Visiting Hours

Since receiving an E for excellent blog award from Kit, I’ve had black and white on my mind. I’ve also been drinking inspiration from so many lovely blogs since this blog started that the time to pass on some blog appreciation is way overdue. Here is the first batch of places I spend my hours visiting.
  1. Blossom - Sharon is a children's wear designer from the UK with a love of lovely things.
  2. Co woli poli - Polish for 'what poli prefers' - her clever mixed media posts are my favourite.
  3. Daydream Lily – love her Melbourne street art pics – did you notice the gorgeous revamp? Kind of hard to miss...it looks divine - nice work Kit, very nice! Won't be long until I'm asking you to revamp this baby.
  4. Loupita - an Irish lass living in Dublin's heart working as a junior accountant and sharing amazing images.
